Southampton FC: Clever Concept for a football stadium

Southampton Football Club's new state-of-the-art stadium cost £32m to build and provides fully covered seating for 32,000 spectators. In addition, there are several VIP suites and director's boxes for corporate hospitality. The football club has got a POS network of 111 Vectron POS Mini distributed around the stadium's concourse stands and 9 Vectron POS Mobile units in the corporate dining areas.

POS Mini - the ideal solution

The deal was put together by a group of suppliers to provide Southampton FC with their perfect EPOS, communications and security solution. Since there is only a very limited time for serving and taking money prior to the game and during half time, the Club required hard-wearing, reliable and speedy ECR terminals which would be able to deal with a vast number of transactions in a very short space of time. The Vectron POS Mini was the ideal choice. It can quickly process data, can be linked to all sorts of software systems, requires little space and is easy to operate even for part time staff. Furthermore, the Club had already been happy with the POS Mini terminals they were using in the Sports and Social Club at the old stadium.

Complete monitoring

Potential security problems arising from the high number of attendees and casual/ part time staff led the management to look for high-tech monitoring solutions that could link into the POS system. All POS systems are linked in one network to beer monitoring systems (Brulines' EDIS system) and back office stock control reporting software provided by MyClub World, allowing stock level control and automated re-order levels. Web cameras of DisTillCam monitor the events in the dispensing area. An "illegal event" such as beer being dispensed, but not entered into an ECR, can cause an SMS text message to be sent to the management team instantaneously. Managers can assess training needs and monitor staff behaviour with this system too.

Remote access after working hours

Camera footage is stored electronically as well as being viewed over the Internet in real time. There is remote access by management from anywhere in the world, thus providing an out of hours security system.
